A Night to Remember

The 2023 Year 12 Ball was the perfect way to start our final year at JSRACS and was a night we will never forget.

The evening began with the Class of 2023 arriving at OPTUS Stadium in various elegant and colourful outfits. On arrival, we were greeted with a range of mocktails. We were led out onto the terrace, where we could take in the spectacular views of the stadium and take some time to reconnect with our peers after the summer holidays. Everyone’s outfits represented themselves in a way we don’t usually see at school. Seeing everyone dressed for such a special event and looking fabulous in their own ways was so different from seeing each other at school.

It was a pleasant surprise when the doors opened to the ballroom to be escorted down the red carpet by our teachers, welcoming us with what we now know as the traditional welcome to the Ball, with a standing ovation. As School Captains, Glory and I led the way for our peers as we entered the ballroom to prepare for our introductory
address. It was so amazing to see the ballroom, the beautiful view of the Matagurup Bridge, and the city skyline in front of us.

Throughout the evening, we were served eccentric meals. The catering staff of OPTUS Stadium were very professional and ensured all dietary requirements were attended to. The presentation of the meals was a bit fancier than we were used to, but it was absolutely delicious. Between meals, we took the opportunity to have our photos taken at the photo station, which included some extra accessories for us to use. It was an excellent opportunity to dress up and take goofy photos with our peers and teachers.

The tables were positioned around the dance floor, which had some colourful disco lights and a DJ who played a great range of music. It took a while for everyone to warm up, but a group of staff sparked the fire on the dancefloor whose names will not be disclosed….but you know who you are. It was lively, and everyone had a great time by the end. It was a great opportunity to bond and spend time with our peers before we formally commence our final year at JSRACS.

We feel fortunate and thankful to be able to have our School Ball at OPTUS Stadium. It was such a beautiful venue, and the view of Swan River was so special. The Ball was such a great experience. We wished it could’ve lasted all night, but by the end of it, our feet were so sore, and we were exhausted. On behalf of the Year 12 students, we’d like to thank all the staff involved in the planning of the Ball – especially Ms Tosi and Ms Edwards. We sincerely appreciate all the effort that went into making the night so special.
