Learning about the Visual Arts is an important aspect of the curriculum at JSRACS, both in the art room and during co-curricular activities. Art Club is a co-curricular programme designed to encourage students to be creative with a variety of mediums, using famous artworks for inspiration. In Art Club this year, students have created a series of Pop-Art inspired artworks, featuring food items and expressive words. Designed to enhance the school’s canteen area, students were introduced to outdoor suitable materials; employing the use of house paints on marine ply. After studying Lichtenstein’s use of the Ben Day dot, students stenciled bright backgrounds and added their comic inspired renditions of food and drink. Their artwork can be seen at the Mirrabooka and Beechboro campuses, hanging proudly around the primary canteens.
