Year 7 Baseline Testing

Monday 11 December 2023

In order to adequately plan for your child’s academic growth and smooth transition to Middle School in 2024 we will invite any student enrolled for 2024, who is not currently a JSRACS student, to attend JSRACS to complete some baseline testing.  This testing will not impact your child’s enrolment but will allow teachers to view any gaps in knowledge and plan learning programmes appropriately before the start of the school year.  This testing aligns with data held for our current and internal students as it is completed within the school annually.

This Baseline Testing Day will occur on Monday 11 December, arriving at 8.30am and finishing at 12.00pm.

How does my child choose their Year 7 Subject Selections for 2024?

Parents/ guardians are encouraged to discuss these options with their child in preparation for subject selections.

Please review the Year 7 2024 Course Outline document and the Year 7 Parent Specialist Subject letter for information regarding the teaching and learning opportunities for Year 7 2024.

All parents will be emailed with details regarding the Year 7 Specialist Subject Selections process and program, which will occur through an online system named EDVAL Choice.

How will I know if I have received my preferred specialist subjects?

A personalised letter will be emailed to parents/guardians or handed to your child around the middle of Term 4 to confirm your child’s specialist subjects for Year 7, 2024.

This information should be used for planning and preparation for the 2024 academic year. Booklists will be made available with this notification.

Preparing to Start School

Sport

“Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity”. John F Kennedy

At JSRACS, we recognise the value of sport as a vital part of a balanced education and offer a wide range of sports, with first-class facilities on campus.

Co-curricular personal pursuits NWAS sport

Performing Arts and Drama

Drama is an integral part of the JSRACS Co-Curricular Programs, catering for singers, actors and backstage technicians from Primary School through to Year 12.  Our aim is to fully develop a student’s talents and skills, by encouraging each student to take part in the preparation and performance of School productions.

The program is designed to enrich, extend, develop confidence and accelerate your child’s learning. Performance is a key component of the program and your child will have the opportunity to perform in front of a variety of audiences, including in our much anticipated annual Drama and Musical productions and the annual Interhouse Theatre sports competition

Year 7 Headstart Day

Tuesday 30 January 2024

We request that our Year 7 students start School the day prior to all other cohorts, arriving at 8.30am and finishing at 3.30pm. This Headstart enables time for our Year 7 students to familiarise themselves with their lockers, organise their items, receive their device, and learn about their IT expectations.

We create space for new connections with staff and peers without the hustle and bustle of other year groups also returning to school.  We believe this is a valuable opportunity for the Year 7 students to settle into their new environment and should aid in a smooth transition to secondary school and JSRACS.

Parents can park on the Terry Hann Oval and walk with their child to the Middle School Learning Street. Students should bring all items from their booklist with them.  From here, parents can meet with our Community Relations Team for a parent morning team and campus tour, concluding at 10.30am.

Specifically organised School run buses will not be available on this day, students will need to be dropped off or picked up from campus.

Year 7 Camp

As part of the Schools Transition program, Year Seven students will attend a camp from Wednesday, 6 March to Friday 8 March 2024.  The programme for this camp will consist of activities including beach team building, supervised water-based activities, service learning and adventure experiences.  In addition to these activities, students will engage with Middle School Student Leaders, teachers and support staff who will coordinate sessions themed around welcoming our Year 7 students into the Middle School community.

The Camp has been designed to enhance opportunities for students to engage with one another in a less formal setting to build strong and positive relationships within the year group.  This is a significant aspect of our Transition program and an important rite of passage for students commencing their Middle School journey.  We focus on this being a time of great change for each child, as such the School surrounds the students at this time with high levels of support to ensure a smooth transition process.

A Consent2Go email will be sent in early February, please ensure this is completed as soon as possible once received.

I trust that the camp aspect of our transition process will be a positive experience for your child and provide them with multiple opportunities to gain friendships.
