This ANZAC Day, we are honoured to announce a new JSRACS Scholarship available for children of former or current Australian Defence Force Personnel. This Scholarship is a tribute to Old Scholar, James Martin; who, in June 2012, was deployed on his first operation as part of the 3rd Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment Task Group and was killed in action on 29 August 2012.
James was dedicated to the School community of John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School. He demonstrated his ability and commitment in many sporting teams, most notably the First XI Cricket Team. James also competed eagerly and with success in the Associated and Catholic Colleges Cricket, Football and Athletics Teams over many years. James also played in the Champion School Soccer Team in 2008. Apart from sport, James demonstrated a passion for Music and annually showcased his musical talent and performed with his band in the School’s ‘Big Night In’ Rock Concert. James’ strength was his belief in the importance of contributing to the life of the community and he led this call by example.
James enlisted into the Australian Regular Army in January 2011 and completed recruit training in April 2011. In May 2011, he began his Initial Employment Training as a Combat Engineer. After completing this course in August 2011, James was posted to the 2nd Combat Engineer Regiment in Brisbane.
We are extremely proud of James, the person he was, and the sacrifice that he made for our country, and we are privileged to honour his memory with this Scholarship. The James Martin Scholarship will be awarded to 2 students in Year 7, 2021, who currently do not attend John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School. The Scholarship will provide 100% remission of tuition fees at JSRACS for Year 7, through Year 12.
We look forward to receiving applications from children of former or current Defence Force Personnel in honour of James Martin, a valued and respected Old Scholar, who contributed much to our country and to our School Community
