Mr Matthew Hughes MLA JP has retired from the position of Principal after 21 years of outstanding leadership and service. Mr Ben Lomas, Deputy Principal, has been appointed as the Interim Principal of John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School over the period of 8 April 2017 – 31 December 2017.
The school opened in 1989 as the Northside Anglican Community School at Beechboro. In 1992, the first buildings were opened at Boyare Avenue and the school’s secondary programme was moved to Mirrabooka. Now the Beechboro campus is a thriving community of learners from Kindergarten to Year 6 and the students at Mirrabooka span Kindergarten to Year 12. Despite being a large, relatively new school, we are a close-knit community rapidly forging strong traditions of our own. Since the school’s inception pastoral care has been paramount and thoroughly integrated into school programmes and structures. John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School is a place where every individual matters.
The last 13 years have seen a constant programme of significant building on both sites. We already have outstanding facilities that foster excellence in technology, the arts and physical education but development continues. A great deal of effort has gone into creating attractive, well maintained grounds with flourishing gardens, paved courtyards and extensive playing fields. We place importance on respecting the school environment, believing that this translates into our students becoming responsible citizens who will care for the local and global community.
Our school is named after John Septimus Roe, a great explorer and Western Australia’s first Surveyor-General. He was a religious man known for his commitment to the community and his exploration of the unknown. His example of determination in the face of difficulties and his service to the community encapsulate many of the goals we seek to achieve at John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School. We encourage our students to have a lively curiosity about the world, to explore the boundaries of their knowledge and have a determination to achieve personal goals.
John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School is a school of the Anglican Schools Commission. The Commission is charged by the Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Perth with the establishment of schools in the Anglican tradition made accessible to local communities through an affordable fee structure. We are proud of our Anglican heritage; Christian faith and the nurturing of the human spirit are at the core of an education at John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School.
I hope you enjoy the insight into the life and values of JSRACS that this website gives. I think you will find that the sense of community is palpable in the informal photographs of our students as they participate in the events that make up the school calendar. It is a community where everyone has a place and one which will welcome your child and your family.
Matthew Hughes, JP
