John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School (JSRACS) is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Paul Rogers as a JSR Basketball coach. He will be assisting Basketball Program Director Mr Mark Shipley in the development and advancement of our program.
Paul Rogers is a renowned basketball coach whose accomplishments are as impressive as his towering height of 7 feet. He has an extensive basketball background, having been signed up with the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA, Real Madrid in the prestigious Spanish League, and Gonzaga University in college basketball.
Rogers has further represented Australia in the World Championships (1998), the Olympics (2000 and 2004), and the Commonwealth Games (2006 Gold medal). In 2000, he was named the NBL’s Most Valuable Player and ABC Basketballer of the Year after winning the NBL championship with the Perth Wildcats.
Currently, Mr Rogers is a Health and Physical Education teacher at Denmark Senior High School holding the position of Teacher in Charge of Basketball. Together with his wife Rennae and their four children, he will be relocating to Perth.

The John Septimus Roe (JSR) Basketball Program was first established in 2019 by Mr Mark Shipley who is the current director of the program. The program is currently open to both male and female students in years 9 to 12, with the program due to expand in the future to include students in years 7 and 8.
This unique opportunity at JSR allows our students to combine quality academic education with their development in Basketball as part of their regular curriculum. Being such a unique opportunity, entrance to the program requires students to try out.
Trials for our 2024 Program are currently open to students entering Year 7 to 10 in 2024, and will be held at 9:00am on Saturday 25 June in the JSRACS Gymnasium. Currently, our 2023 Year 9 cohort is at capacity and we are unable to enrol external students for 2023. If you’d like to attend the trial, please express your interest by clicking here. Additionally, we offer scholarships for the Basketball Program. For information on scholarships click here.
The addition of Paul Rogers to the JSR Basketball Program is significant, as his expertise will undoubtedly inspire the student-athletes he coaches. Please join us in welcoming Paul when he joins JSRACS at the beginning of Term 2, 2023.
