Growing Hearts & Minds

At JSR, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom. Our community engagement co-curricular programs are thoughtfully designed to foster a deep awareness, connection and care for the community, helping students grow into empathetic, socially responsible individuals.

A Community of Care

Through a rich variety of acts of service, service learning, and outreach initiatives, students are given meaningful opportunities to engage with real-world challenges and make a positive impact. These experiences not only build character but also strengthen leadership, teamwork, and a sense of purpose.

Some of our standout programs include supporting the Anglicare School Sleepout, East Kimberley Service Learning Tour, Esperance Soccer and Netball Service Learning Tour, Ronald McDonald House Meal Preparation, YShac Meal preparation, The Anglicare Ambassador program, Indonesian Tour, as well as numerous other service and fundraising events throughout the year.

Where it begins

At JSR, service learning begins in the early years, where students develop empathy, compassion and a commitment to others.

Through initiatives such as fundraising for our partner school and orphanage in Indonesia, the Year 5 One Hen Project and caring for our school bushlands, students learn the value of service, stewardship and global citizenship. Together, these experiences help build a strong community of care and meaningful contribution that carries through to the Senior School.

Compassionate Leadership

These programs are more than just activities and initiatives; they are opportunities for students to learn through service, reflect on their experiences, and develop a lifelong commitment to helping others.

The Catalyst23 program is born out of Matthew 23:11, “Let the Greatest among you be your Servant” At JSR we believe that leadership and service go hand in hand. We do not talk about these exclusively, but rather consistently recognise that to be a good leader requires great service, and that service is a demonstration of good leadership.

At JSR, we are proud to nurture not only academic excellence but also compassionate leadership. Our students leave with more than knowledge, they leave with the heart and courage to make a difference.
