On FIRE in the ELC

You may have heard your child talk about being on ‘FIRE’.  Celebrating student growth and character is at the heart of our thriving early childhood community. Last term, we launched the “Student on Fire” Award, an exciting initiative designed to recognise and promote the values that shape our youngest learners into compassionate, confident, and capable individuals.

The word FIRE in the award’s title is more than just a symbol of enthusiasm. It represents the core values that guide our school community:

These pillars form the foundation of the program, ensuring that recognition extends beyond academic achievement to include personal development and social responsibility.

Students from Kindergarten to Year 1 are eligible to be nominated for the Student on Fire Award. Each nomination is made by a teacher, who carefully observes students demonstrating one or more of the FIRE values in their daily interactions, learning, and behaviour.  The nominations are then readout during Weekly Worship, and students receive their nomination card to take home that outlines the reasons why they have been recognised.  Using a randomiser on the big screen, one student is then highlighted for the week.

The Student on Fire Award is more than just an accolade. It is a powerful tool for reinforcing the importance of Faith, Inclusion, Respect, and Excellence within the school environment. By highlighting and celebrating these behaviours, the initiative nurtures a positive culture where students are encouraged to support one another, act with integrity, and strive for their personal best.

Through meaningful recognition and encouragement, the Student on Fire Award helps ignite a lifelong passion for positive values in our early learners. It reminds students that their actions matter and that even small moments of kindness, effort, and respect can make a big difference.

As this initiative grows, it promises to continue inspiring students, strengthening community connections, and shining a light on the everyday brilliance found in our classrooms.
