Year 7 at JSR

Year 7: The Year of Change
Transitioning to Year 7 is an exciting time of change, and at JSR we place strong emphasis on helping students feel confident, connected and supported as they move into Senior School.
Our structured transition program begins with a Year 7 Orientation Day, followed by a Headstart Day, giving students the opportunity to become familiar with the campus, routines and key staff before the school year begins. The experience is further strengthened through the Year 7 Transition Camp, where students build friendships, develop independence and begin to form a strong sense of belonging within the JSR community.
Year 7 is designed to embed a sense of community, a feeling of belonging and a love of learning.
Learning in Year 7
In Years 7 and 8, each student’s core curriculum consists of English and Mathematics as part of their daily program, together with Languages, Science, Humanities, Religion Education and Physical and Health Education.
Students can delve into discovering their passions and talents by selecting elective subjects, including Woodwork, Cooking, Dance, Drama, Music, Digital Technology, Visual or Media Arts, and Languages.
Year 7 is an exciting year when students start immersing themselves in the wider school community by participating in House initiatives, including Friday House Activities, the Interhouse Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming Carnivals. Students also have the opportunity to participate in various cocurricular activities, including NEAS sporting competitions, Choreography Night, the Middle School Drama production and various clubs and special interest groups.
